For our office the most immediate and helpful change can be found on pages 116 and 117 regarding the patient engagement measures of Meaningful Use stage 2. Prior to this update MU2 core #7 required 5% of patients to View, Download, or Transmit their health information. With the changes put forward in this document now EP's will only have to attest that 1 patient did this within the reporting period. Additionally core #17 previously required 5% of patients to send a secure electronic message via the patient portal. Now the EP will only have to attest that "The capability for patients to send and receive a secure electronic message was enabled during the EHR reporting period".

I was just wondering if anything changes in what is done with Crystal. I gave up on MU in 2014. The misery index was too high for this old broad. Just trying to decide if it's worth it, or even possible, to do it when they announce the new rules after the shortened reporting period has already started. I forgot, do you have to have direct messaging to qualify? Just paying for that counteracts about half of the penalty I would pay for as little regular Medicare as I do. www.aoa.org/news/practice-management/cms-issues-ehr-incentive-programs-final-rule?sso=y&ct=ad2d0728799a8ce7f23fa096777489cc4caf2ad3ec90bfd84f94f205c78f8a7bb83d1b4e71dbfe4d1d94773cb77028d9f8e6f6bc05ee7d5a3f24c13a9f025a56Marcia

As far as I know you do not technically have to have direct messaging. We have it, however none of our docs we regularly co-manage patients with have it so it is basically pointless. MU2 does require a certain percentage of patients who are referred out to have records electronically transferred, and we have been told by Crystal that uploading charts to a portal for referring docs to download from will suffice for this measure.
