What ID card scanners are you using? I would like to start scanning the insurance cards in to our system and need to know which one is compatible with CPM. Thanks!

The Fujitsu ScanSnap series are expensive but are the best scanners I have ever used. Perfect for all scanning needs including cards. Ours integrate with CPM without a hitch.

I have all Ambir scan scanners. I have a small version to scan cards and one page Dr records at front desk and stacking scanners to scan everything.
We don't use files for anything. It's all saved on a local server and the documents area is saved.
I researched all of the scanners out there and the Ambir scan was the least expensive for our needs. We started with the front one and we quickly grew to 3 within 18 months. We scan all the old Dr records into the system using the larger ones in the back because they can duplex multiple pages and "ignore" any blank pages.
The tech support is amazing and a great warranty, too.

We use the scan snap for documents. Each front desk computer has a BizCard Reader which is small and scans ID and insurance cards quickly.

I second Vaderkty's comments - Ambir works well for us as well - get em on amazon inexpensively.

Use the ScanSnap scanner as well, however, I suddenly lost the ability for the scan to populate the insurance tab. Now I have to scan to the 'files' tab. Any suggestions to get the scanned cards to repopulate the insurance tab successfully? Thanks.

If you go to the bottom right of your task bar on the computer you should see a small chevron that will pull up a quick menu. If you click on the scan snap logo you can select different scanning presets. You may have the files one selected instead of the insurance one. The difference being that Ins cards need to be saved as image file rather than PDFs See Photo Attached.. Hope this helps!

Did you check the file type? The cards have to be scanned as JPG in order to populate in the insurance tab. PDF will save to the files tab with multiple sheets

I've been using Bulletscan S300 for four years, and it's been working great. It's cheaper than Fujitsu scanners, and it does scan pretty fast.

The smart age has almost rejected the time consuming expensive device scanners. People are using smart mobile scanning apps which can be easily downloaded from Google Play or iTunes store and installed in your smartphone. They can be used anytime anywhere. The OCR scanning apps like Accura Scan, Text Fairy or CamScanner take milliseconds to scan documents and save the bulk files in the app's cloud for safety. These apps are filled with convenient features that make scanning and storing so easy.

While much of what you say here is true, I think the pivotal area where these solutions would be found wanting is their integration with the practice management software like Crystal. The scanners mentioned above like the ScanSnap or the Ambir scanners, although obsolete for most regular users, are still valuable in the sense that you can scan directly into Crystal without the need for added retrieval steps that would be necessary with a scanner app on a mobile device. Moreover, depending on the content of what you are scanning, there are potential HIPAA violation to consider when having a third party manage the storage or transportation of such files.
