When the Allscripts browser window opened is opened by clicking E-prescribe, is that using a certain web browser like Internet Explorer or Chrome. Just wondering since Allscripts sent an email about certain browser versions not working with Allscripts after 1/31/17. Is there a way to elect what the default browser is?

Dear Valued Client,
A year ago, January 12, 2016, we shared with you that Microsoft had announced they would only support Internet Explorer 11 going forward.
We encouraged all Allscripts ePrescribe users to take immediate action since older versions of IE would no longer get security updates. Security updates patch vulnerabilities that may be exploited by malware, helping to keep users and their data safer. Regular security updates help protect computers from malicious attacks, so upgrading and staying current is important. This is especially true for an e-prescribing system that utilizes patient's protected health information (PHI) and can be used to prescribe controlled substances.
It is Allscripts' policy to discontinue support of Browsers based on their age (typically >3 years) or as a result of discontinuation of support by their manufacturer. Accordingly, IE version 8, 9 or 10 are no longer supported by Microsoft. It should also be noted that since these obsolete browsers no longer receive security updates they are not considered HIPAA compliant.
Beginning with the ePrescribe Cumulative Update (CU) release on January 31, 2017, any user logging in with an older browser (less than IE9 or less than Chrome 44) will see a warning message that their browser is no longer supported and advising them to upgrade or switch to IE11 or the latest version of Chrome. For more information on ePrescribe compatible browsers, please consult the available documentation in iLearn.
Upon completion and release of ePrescribe 2017.1 (planned for mid-April) users attempting to login with these old browsers will be prevented from doing so. Only by upgrading or switching to IE11 or Chrome will users be able to successfully login to ePrescribe.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter,
The Allscripts ePrescribe Support Team
