Is anyone out there using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host their Crystal PM database? I'd be interested to hear about your experience!
TIA!

I believe my husband has asked Crystal about this and their official response is that it's not supported. Curious as well if anyone has tried it though.

Derek Hamilton Austin, TX I don't see why it wouldn't work to be honest. Instead of having a local IP for the client to connect to, you'd just connect to an EC2 IP. You're essentially doing your own cloud hosted version of Crystal with your desktops connecting to AWS for the server. I think it should work, especially if the office has a dedicated IP and you have the instance firewalled off from the rest of the world

Not yet. I've put it on the back-burner for now. However, I'm in the market to buy a second practice. If I do, AWS will make way for sense for hosting multiple locations. Anyone else?

I am curious to know as well. I don't see a reason why it should not work with AWS. That said, We have 2 practices that share a database as well. We keep the server hardware at one location and have the other location remote in via RDP sessions to run Crystal. It works perfectly fine. The only downside is the security risk of have employees running sessions on the actual physical server rather than on their own local PC. To combat this we have removed most internet access while inside an RDP session so that basically you can only use Crystal from inside the RDP session. It's not a huge deal because if you have used a Remote Desktop Session before then you know you can easily just minimize it and access all other programs and internet on you local desktop. If you have a dual monitor setup then its even easier.

I have disabled straight RDP with all my clients over the last couple years. Two of them had network breaches. Now they use a VPN tunnel, then RDP through that.

We tried VPN however there was significant speed and packet loss. We use top of the line hardware as well. It didn't and still does not really make that much sense to me, because even though tunneling will reduce speed, it should still be plenty quick enough to run Crystal. The RDP is absolutely more risky especially if you don't limit application access as the admin. As I mentioned before our RDP sessions at our remote location have been disabled from accessing internet applications in any way. They basically only run Crystal, and to do any other tasks on those computers you will need to minimize RDP session and perform them locally on the desktop.

Is there a report that shows user log of actions they do daily in Crystal? What patients they were in and if they delete or edit information, etc.?

Is there a report that shows user log of actions they do daily in Crystal? What patients they were in and if they delete or edit information, etc.? There is, it's under Reports->User log report. You can filter by employee/date/etc. Keep in mind since the report tracks a ton of info, choosing a large date range will take some time for the report to generate.
