I have used a Surface Pro for 2 years. It has a keyboard and a stylus pen for drop down boxes. It works great and is easily portable between rooms

I agree that for tablet use the Surface Pro's from Microsoft are the best option. I'm sure there are other hybrid systems out there from less reputable manufacturers that are less expensive but I would be hesitant to go that route. The honest truth is, Crystal is not really optimized for tablet use. Efficient use of the EHR kind of requires a keyboard. Particularly in exam rooms. The time it takes to enter information in a record is vastly decreased with the keyboard and ability to tab from field to field. I find that tablet use is most beneficial in the retail optical side, not for use with crystal, but rather for showing frames to patients via an online catalog if we don't have a particular color in stock or something. For this, the Surface tablets work beautifully as they have the high quality hardware and processing power of a high end lap top, a folding keyboard that is surprisingly tactile, and also the sleek design and portability of the best tablets out there. For crystal the processing power and keyboard are essential, and the design and portability are added benefits useful primarily to those staff members working in the retail. We have a total of 4 Surface machines for use by our opticians and have had no complaints. Good Luck!
