As I browse through the templates, I see that a lot of doctors will have a tab for Rx Check or CL fit, etc. I assume that for those types of visits you only fill out that one tab and not the complete record. I have tried something out like this previously, but then when they come in for their complete exam, and I hit the "previous" button nothing will fill in, because that section was left blank at the visit before. For example, if I click "previous" on the ROS tab, nothing will fill in if their prior visit was just an Rx check where the ROS tab wasn't completed.
Also, typically how I will finalize CL prescriptions is to edit the old record and then "send to final" (in the case where I give trials and the patient can call if they are happy with the CLs). Is this how most docs do it, or do they create a whole new chart just to finalize the CLs.

"tab for Rx Check or CL fit, etc. I assume that for those types of visits you only fill out that one tab and not the complete record." Did you get an answer to this? I am working on setting up the whole order of tabs and how our office handles each visit. This is a great question for follow up appointments on Contacts or if the SRx is wrong.

Is this how most docs do it, or do they create a whole new chart just to finalize the CLs. I have a bunch of Prev buttons in my template and noticed that my history data did not pull forward. It was particularly annoying for the checkboxes I use for basic family history items because you can't view their prev values without going to the prev record. I assumed it was because the prev exam was a CL check or Rx Ck without a history so I just started pulling forward the history for every record so it would always be there. That said, I just ran a bunch of tests and the Prev Value button command is pulling forward the last value used in that field even if it wasn't the last exam. And it didn't matter if an empty field in between was on a saved tab or not. However, checkboxes do some weird things so I think I would continue to pull forward my history. Note: I pull all my Prev Values with buttons added to my template. I do not use the Shift F8 button or shortcut keys like Alt-F8, Alt-F10, etc. Also, FYI, when the Prev Value all the same date command is used in a button, it appears to go to the most recent record with a value in any one of the requested fields and then pulls forward the all the requested values (even if blank) from that exam date. I've attached some screen grabs showing successive exams. The last exam on each page was filled with the Prev button. The first page uses the Prev Values command and the second page uses the Prev Values same exam date. As to the CL check question, I like to try to keep as much info on one record as possible. After you get a few exams for a patient, it gets really hard to follow what's going on with them over multiple exams. You can see history on individual fields easily enough but you frequently need to see a bunch of fields together. I often find it easiest to open another copy of Crystal so I can see two exams side-by-side. If it's a new fit where I'm seeing them back and making additional changes in trials, I use a separate record for that CL check but if it's just a trial for power that I want the pt to try and call back, I put the trial lens info in Trial #2 (Hab/T1 is the lenses they came in with) and copy that to Final CL Rx. Then I put something like "Trial to confirm power, pt to call in preference" in the Final CL Rx notes and Finalize the Rx (which sends those notes to the CL RX notes so we can tell that it is not really final yet). The notes are also copied to my CL Plan. When they call back, I put a dated update in the CL plan that says which one they preferred T1 or T2 (Or T3) and, if it's not the one that is in the final CL Rx, I modify it and finalize again and take the comments out of the Rx notes. I also have a fit done box that I check to know that that is the true final CL Rx. HTH, Marcia
