I'm trying to update my med records and online forms with the new options for the various ARRA fields and it's really difficult to get all the options in there. I tried selecting one F9 at a time and copying it to my list but you can't delete them once they are there, even if you highlight the contents. You have to choose another option from the drop down box and the options don't always want to drop down. Also, it was stated that the ARRA options have to match verbatim. Does that include the portion in parenthesis? E.G. Never smoker (<100 lifetime cigarettes or equivalent quantity of cigar or pipe smoke). Can we edit that down to Never Smoker (<100 cigs)?
Is there some way for us to highlight and/or order the options? EG. Examination type has 21 different options, most of which 99.9% of us will never use. I've never even heard of some of them!

What about the Family History section? It will take 2 days to scroll down to Retinal Detachment, IF you don't accidentally let go of the mouse button and have to start over! How can we select the disease or condition faster? Pretty sure it's not going to be relevant that the patient's maternal cousin had an abrasion. Never needed that one before..... Karen

Are they going to fix this? Did anyone respond to you?

I learned by trial and error and a helpful post by pfec that I can type the condition/disease in the box and it will take it. Example: I can type diabetes, diabetes mellitus will come up in the window. I can delete the mellitus and it will keep diabetes associated with the family member. So far so good.... I'm pretty much trying to stick with diabetes and eye-relevant diseases. Supposedly you only need one listed. I'm also adding 'family hx diabetes' in the Notes field on the ARRA tab for the searchable notes requirement.

FWIW, I copy and pasted the F9 options from ethnicity race and smoking status if any needs them for web forms, button functions. These items have to match verbatim. As for family history, I'm still trying to find out if we can get an abbreviated list since we can edit the options listed (at this point). Marcia
Race: American Indian or Alaska Native Asian Black or African American Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander White Other Race Patient Declined to Specify
Ethnicity: Hispanic or Latino Not Hispanic or Latino Unknown Patient Declined to Specify
Smoking status Never smoker (<100 lifetime cigarettes or equivalent quantity of cigar or pipe smoke) Former smoker (no longer smokes) Current some day smoker (not daily) Light smoker (<10 cigs/day) Heavy smoker (>10 cigs/day) Smoker (current status unknown) Current every day smoker Unknown if ever smoked

LOL...I bet you were. We're going to list a few and just tell them to let us know if they want another but I can't decide which ones to use. Right now I've got the 7 UN languages: English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic and Russian but those are not the most common. I really fail to see what the government is trying to achieve with all these options. Are they trying to replace the census with our medical records? Why not list the most common languages and group the rest under Other? Marcia

I don't know...we are in Tennessee and 'Southern' isn't on the list. That's about all we need here! I suspect there will be many more detailed statistics about who is getting what kind of medical treatment coming out of all this. I don't think it is helping us give any better care to our patients tho! I know some do not appreciate our 'prying' into their marital status!
