So, currently the list of colors for appointment types and the list of colors for the appointment status are linked, so the nth item on one list is the same color as the nth item on the other list.
This seems silly, since currently we've got the colors set so that they make sense for appointment status, and the list of appointment types is set up so that it makes sense for the front-office staff when scheduling. We don't want to change either of these, obviously, but it means the color scheme for appointment types pretty unreadable, since the color relation between, for example, signed in/signed out shouldn't really be the same as the relation between new/established patient exam.

On my schedule, the colors are changeable by clicking the status/type color at bottom of the page. Have you tried changing them this way?

Certainly, that works. The issue is that the colors aren't independently changeable.
Simplified example, since I can't get my screenshots to post. If the current color scheme for appointment status is:
Signed in: Green Signed out: Blue Confirmed: Yellow Left Message: Purple
then the color scheme for appointment types must be
Exam: Green Contact lens check: Blue Glaucoma work-up: Yellow Re-refraction: Purple.
If we want to switch things so that exams are purple and re-refractions are green, the only way to do that is to go into the schedule settings and switch those entries in the list of appointment types. If we want to change an appointment type to, say, orange, there's no way of doing that without also making an appointment status status orange.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree that is seems ridiculous they cannot isolate the two different schedule views and their respective color schemes.. I don't know why they have to be linked. We decided to UN-alphabetize our appointment type list so that we could have Exams be the color we want them to be on the appointment type view... It is not ideal... The only other work around, which I know is going to sound crazy lol, but you could go into admin and create 12 appointment types that sit at the very top of your appt type selection list and they will accommodate the 12 spots of colors you dont want to change because they will change the appointment status view. After the twelfth exam type you should be able to customize colors with out it affecting the Appointment status view.... Super annoying though, I agree... :/

I'd actually considered doing the dummy appointment type thing. But at that point, that just cripples enough other functions that it's just not worth it.

I actually think the best idea for Crystal would be to leave the appointment status view and the respective color selections where they are currently located on the schedule view, and move the appointment type color selection over the the admin schedule page where you create new appointment types. That just makes the most sense to me, and it seems like a natural way to disconnect the two color schemes.

But then that means you're toggling back and forth between screens to see the effects of your changes, and you can't see the colors for the appointment types on the schedule page. There shouldn't be anything about having the legend stay in the same place that requires the colors to also stay the same.
