How can we use patients email addresses to recall, confirm, group communication confidentially? Do we need to create a patient email list in another specialized program in order to perform automated services? If so, is there one you recommend?

There are numerous 3rd party companies that satisfy what you are looking for. I would say the most popular ones include SolutionReach, DemandForce, WebSystem3, and Weave (VOIP phone service as well).. I have personal experience with all but WebSystem3. SolutionReach and DemandForce are both very popular and effective at communicating with your patient base. Both will do recall, confirm, and mass email/text. I personally prefer SolutionReach's user interface and flexibility with designing newsletters. We also use Weave at one of our offices and it works great as well, however it is quite different from the others in that it is also a VOIP telephone service. This provides some pretty cool integrations that the others do not offer like a stand alone app from which you may call/text patients anytime as well as syncs with Crystal so you have immidiate access to basic pt info like name, DOB, and associated family members. The mobile app allows you to login from anywhere and check office voicemails or call someone from within the app so that the office phone shows on their caller ID rather than your personal number. It is all password protected and HIPAA compliant. Along with all those features Weave also automatically does recalls and confirmations.
