There is no place for medication dosage, frequency & route in the meds list in the medical record. How are other offices handling this? I understand we have to include this information, not just the name of the drug.

while we're on the subject, can we please have the medication name we select be the one that shows up in the patient's file? When reviewing meds, if we ask if they are taking, for example, escitalopram, we get a blank look until we tell them it's Lexapro. We lose time looking up meds to see what the brand name is. Even reviewing a meds list gives the same problem when Crystal gives the generic and the pharmacy list has the brand. What we select should be what goes in the record. And it would be REALLY NICE if we could add on the fly. Not everything is in the list. One more thing (then I'll get off my soapbox), some meds are a combination of ingredients (birth control) and you can't enter them exactly as needed. The medications list needs some attention, please.

I've never had the problem that KizerOpt just mentioned of selecting the brand and it being listed as the generic so I tried some experiments with the Medication Add window. Searching for Lipitor, the results in the 4 boxes are: Ingredients: atorvastatin Brands: Lipitor Clinical Drug or Pack:atorvastatin 10 MG Oral Tablet atorvastatin 20 MG Oral Tablet atorvastatin 40 MG Oral Tablet atorvastatin 80 MG Oral Tablet Branded Drug or Pack: atorvastatin 10 MG Oral Tablet[Liptor] atorvastatin 20 MG Oral Tablet[Liptor] atorvastatin 40 MG Oral Tablet[Liptor] atorvastatin 80 MG Oral Tablet[Liptor] Note: the packs have the dosage and route, but no freq.
If I select from either the Ingredients or Brands box, the med list display matches what I selected. However, if one of the Branded Drug or Pack items is selected, the Brand portion of the description is lost in the medication list.
For BCPs or other Combo drugs, I select one of the Clinical Drug or Packs options. For BCPs you ignore the second line for "inert ingredients oral tablets" which represent the 7 inert pills in a 28 day pack. My problem is everybody just says BCP, not knowing what brand or generic they are taking.

That's about right, Marcia. If we select the dosage, we lose the Brand. With BCP, if we are lucky enough that the patient tells us what brand (ie Ortho-novum)we have no option to select Ortho-novum 7/7/7 28 day pack. We have to pick either Ethinyl Estradiol, Norethindrone, or guess at the dosage for both. Why can't we have what we search for?

When adding/listing medications, there is a Status box with drop-downs (Active, Prior History, No Longer Active). Is it a meaningful use requirement that we choose or list one of these drop-down choices? I'm asking because we have patients who may no longer be taking a med and wonder if it is a requirement that we list this discontinued med as Prior History or No Longer Active.
Also, as listed in prior posts, whenever we list a brand drug and select it from the "Branded Drug or Pack", only the generic drug name gets listed in the medication box; we lose the name of the brand drug. REALLY would be helpful to have that brand name listed--can it be done? Thank you.
