We currently use opto as our PM and don't have an EHR. We are going with paper still. We want to make the switch, but we don't want to make the wrong choice. We have heard nightmares from other colleagues about switching and being stuck with something they don't like and paid to much to drop it. We have researched a lot of different EHR's and all of them seem to take something simple that we do on one sheet of paper into something where you have to click to multiple different pages to do everything. We are looking for anyone who has used Opto and converted to Crystal and there feedback on their transition. Thank you.

Hope this isn't too late to reply. We switched from OPTO to Crystal about two and a half years ago. The biggest problem we had was not getting all of our previous financial, prescription history, and glasses history transferred over. I know that with Scott and Ron Bussinger now working with Crystal, it's likely that this will be worked out. There are (were?) some areas that we missed from OPTO, particularly in the inventory area, but overall it has been a positive change.
To answer your concern about taking a simple one page paper and turning it into a multi-page computer task - You can set up Crystal to be a one-page template if you prefer. Alternately, many have set up several pages and then had this data populate a one page summary. The genius of Crystal is that you can make your EHR to be just about anything you would like it to be.
