How is everyone adding/creating rigid toric rxs. There are buttons for rigid toric prescriptions (TORIC & MULTI TORIC) but there aren't any fields for CYL, AXIS or PRISM. In the past we have worked around this problem by writing the entire Rx ( sph - cyl X axis) into the SPHERE field. Now when a full rx is written into the SPH field CrystalPM alters the rx to PLANO.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
PS: What is the logic behind the buttons: RIGID + bifocal, multifocal, or multi-toric? They all appear to be the same with the multi-toric losing all seg height, prism, and no cyl.

In the past we have worked around this problem by writing the entire Rx ( sph - cyl X axis) into the SPHERE field. Now when a full rx is written into the SPH field CrystalPM alters the rx to PLANO. I just happened to discover the answer to this today and I was getting ready to make a post about it in the Tips section. I don't know how long it has been there but you can now designate text fields as "Rx fields" and select either a sph, cyl, axis or add. With that setting, you can enter data with the plus sign and without the decimal place and it substitutes "plano" for "0". EG "0" -> plano, "3" -> +3.00, 325-> +3.25. "-3"-> -3.00 The conversion is made when you leave the field. So, presumably, somewhere along the line your fields were converted to Rx Fields and that's why/when you lost the ability to enter sph/cyl/axis into the sph field. If you uncheck the Rx Field box on those fields, you should be able to use your work-around again. If you like the autoformatting, you could just turn it off on the CL sph fields but that may mess you up if you have to enter data differently in the those fields. I attached a screen grab showing how you set the RX Field type. I can't answer your question about why we have those radio buttons for type. I can see having different fields for SCL and RGP since the RGPs have a lot more parameters but having different fields appear based on Rx is annoying. It caused us to order several CLs as sphere instead of cyl (because the cyl and axis don't display even if there is data there) until I added some commands to my CL Finalize button to automatically set the type based on the RX but it's only based on the OD Rx so it's not 100%. Marcia
Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, it does not work. I can change our CL rx FID fields to accept text, which is great. But, when the CL rx is FINALIZED (transferred) to CrystalPM's SPEC/CL Rx TAB the text data is converted back to Rx field data (PLANO). You can add text to the SPH field on the SPEC /CL RX TAB ... you cannot put a full Rx (-1.00-1.00X090 or -1.00/-2.00 @090). Is there is a way to change the field type for the SPEC/CL Rx tab?

I JUST discovered the setting Fix RX Format under EHR Settings/Page Options. It appears to do the same thing for the Rx Tab as the Rx Fields setting for text boxes. I'm betting that is checked and unchecking it will fix your problem. Let me know if that worked. Also I just posted info about how the Rx Fields work here crystalpm.proboards.com/thread/935/designating-text-fields-rxDid you get up with Adam? Marcia

But Fix RX Format does still let you input alphanumeric data too. The problem is that there is a quasi bug that converts it to plano (or 0.00 for sph, or +0.00 +for Add) if there's a number with a decimal place in there. See this post crystalpm.proboards.com/thread/935/designating-text-fields-rxAnd to answer his question about the missing fields, FWIW, I would generally put unusual things like that (for me) in the notes. Thanks for the help.
The "Fix Rx Format" check box does allow you to transfer/push field data to the Spec/CL Rx tab in its original text format. But, if the text field data is edited/modified in the Spec/CL Rx tab, the field data changes to PLANO. I've gotta remember not to modify the toric RGP data in the Spec/CL Rx tab.
@marcia: I did email Adam a short list of possible modifications to the RGP rx fields. I did not get into the button thingy. (The button thing must make sense to someone...) I did suggest basic rx fields necessary to write up TORIC, BIFOCAL, MULTIFOCAL or MULTI-TORIC RGP Rxs orders. I hope Crystal makes things simpler and less fancy-smancey. Well, fancy is okay if it were functional. In the not too long ago dark ages, when we actually wrote out CL rxs and wrote up CL orders with a pen; we had 2 paper forms (cl rx and cl order form)to cover everything.

Thanks for the help. The "Fix Rx Format" check box does allow you to transfer/push field data to the Spec/CL Rx tab in its original text format. But, if the text field data is edited/modified in the Spec/CL Rx tab, the field data changes to PLANO. That goes back to info in my post about designating Text Fields as Rx fields I linked above. The Fix Rx Format does the same thing in the Rx Tab as the Text/Rx Fields do. The data is registered in the field and the formatting changes take place when you leave the field by hitting Tab, Enter or clicking another field. OTOH, button commands write the data directly to the appropriate fields so when you hit your finalize button, that formatting doesn't take place. Then if you hit Enter or Tab after manually make a change, that RX reformats and sinec you have decimal place with text, it converts to zero. Turning off that Fix Rx Format will fix your problem until (if) that bug can be fixed. BTW, that also answers the mystery of why my combo Rx field (the one on the far left that displays sph-cyl x axis) is always blank. I actually thought they stopped that function for some reason because I never enter data on that Rx Tab so that field is always blank. Then it filled in when I was testing the Fix RX Format feature yesterday. I REALLY wish they would let us use the actual CL and Spec RX fields on our med rec tabs like we can now do with the ARRA fields. Besides eliminating the hassle of coding the finalize buttons, it's inherently bad design when you have 2 different fields containing what should be identical data. Besides creating potential to have conflicting data in the record, it would also help prevent order errors. In more instances than I care to admit, I have forgotten to "Finalize" the Rx and glasses or CLs ordered based on the previous Rx because the Final Rx was on my Refraction tab but not my Rx tab. I would still advocate for a warning system for anytime and order is made with an Rx older than say 9 mos (or even better if we could set our own interval), but that would be just to give a head's up that the Rx is old and you may want to recheck it or not allow a years supply, etc. As to the CL Type buttons, if they are needed for something within Crystal, fine, but why can't we have one view for ALL SCL and one for ALL RGPs instead of fields coming and going and moving around? It's very distracting and it's harder to find what you want. Everything could easily fit if they just abbreviated headings (EG Sph, BC, DIA or OAD, CT, SC, PC, etc) and sized the fields appropriately for the data (I can fit 2000000000000 in the seg height now). CL Rx screen/tab has a button for 'Gas Perm". But, the CL order screens have no radio button for "Gas Perm" Please add "Gas Perm" ordering capability to the order screens.
