On the You Tube presentation, Paul says the direct messaging is $20 per office. Is that a one time fee or per month or what? Does it give the patients the ability to send messages to us through the portal? When I login to the portal, I don't see any way to send a message, but the printout on the invoice indicates that ability exists there. Can you give me some more info please? Is anyone on the forum meeting this measurement yet? If so, I'd like to hear how you are doing it. Thanks,
Karen

Did you ever get an answer? I don't remember where I heard it but I'm pretty sure it was $20/mo for the direct email. But patients can send a message to us from the patient portal and that is independent from the direct email. FYI, the link for the Patient Portal is different than what was used before to access the uploaded files so that may be why you aren't seeing it. We used to link (at least I) to the downloadable files at www.crystalpm.com/fileManager.jsp?crystalpmid=CRYSTALID# but now patients need to be directed to the Pt Portal at www.crystalpm.com/PatientPortal.jsp?crystalpmid=CRYSTALID#The Patient Portal page has a Site Map, the Downloadable Files section and the Messaging section. If you subscribe to Direct Email, you can also email uploaded files to other providers. The patient can enter a message and check whether they want a response and hit SEND. The messages show up as a Task item when you Check for Web Messages on the Task page. The text is orange if just a comment. Burgundy if a response has been requested. They are assigned to that patient when they come in so you can go directly to their pt info or med recs from the task, which is nice. Unfortunately, they appear to show up on every employee's task list right now. I have asked if we could get a way to assign them to a specific employee(s). Marcia

Thanks Marcia, that's more info than I've gotten from Crystal. I finally did figure out (found out accidentally, actually) that the portal had changed. That helped some. Did not know about the color coding of messages, haven't gotten any yet. I still think it would be nice to give them one login and when they go to their portal, they can access their information to update it. Maybe a link on the portal to their patient info page.

Still working on a reasonable way to send an invitation to the portal, then a message that the patient has an appointment, with a link to the website to update their medical history. Not having any success making this an easy process using a custom template. Right now, I open a new email (draft including the customized letter), copy/paste the patient's email address in it, modify as needed for patient's name. Then I send a message where I copy/paste the customized message with the appointment reminder and link to the OTHER website. Confused yet? This is like printing out a page, just to scan it back in to fax a pdf of it! Does ANYONE have a better way? It will take me alllll day to send emails to patients.

I think the answer you are most likely to get is to use an integrated system like Solution Reach, Websystem3, Demand Force. Since Crystal has provided integration with them, I assume they don't want to spend development time bringing those features into Crystal, at least not without extra fees.

There is a blog about how to use the portal that helped me quite a bit. I am not sure how to get you to that post....but try this.
explaining patient portal to patients: crystalpm.proboards.com/threads/recent/349
Hope this helps. Cant say I know much about the direct messaging feature...I am still having trouble triying to set up non-direct without using a gmail acct.

How do you reply to an incoming message from the portal back to the pt portal? You can reply to a message from the portal by going to Patient>>Files>>Online Portal. Then select "Messages" and click "Send Message". That brings up a message window that shows a record of previous messages and a box to compose a new message (or reply).
