We occasionally see patients that have a strong preference to be addressed by the name listed in the nickname field instead of their legal name, with roughly equal distribution between trans patients that haven't updated their legal documents yet, and Cis patients ("Mike" instead of "Michael", as one example). I was wondering if there might be an option to set it so that the sign-in list shows the patient by Nickname, Last name instead of First name, Last name, to help other office staff be more consistent in addressing patients by their preferred names.
Specifically, I would be looking for a function that would replace the patient's first name with the nickname, IF a nickname is available. I spoke with my office administrator and the current version would support an arrangement of Nickname, Last name, but if the patient doesn't have a nickname, then it doesn't display anything but the last name.

I agree that this would be helpful. We also sometimes have patients who go by a middle name or something that's quite different from their legal first name and it's easy to call them by the incorrect name if all you see is what's in the first name box. For our trans patients, we've started putting the name they go by in the first name box and create an alert or note with the legal first name if it hasn't been updated yet so that we still have it for billing purposes just to make sure we avoid ever addressing them by the incorrect name.
