Hi there, We have a request. Currently when we link patients to guarantor, most of the information transfers from the guarantor to the patient, but cell phone and vision insurance currently do not. Since we are a vision clinic and since most of our patients are using cell phone as oppose to home phone nowadays, we are having to take extra steps to copy the information to the patients chart. Can the system be set up so that vision insurance and cell phone phone numbers also transfer to the patient (along with the information that currently transfers)? This would be a big Help. Thanks!

I don't think you really want the cell phone number to transfer too since the vast majority of people have their own cell phone number. Even little kids have cells phones these day! Marcia

I would respectfully disagree. We have a lot of families that want to use the same cell phone number and even if a child has a cell phone, do we really want to call a child to remind them of there appointment or ask about insurance coverage? I don't think I ever would, but to each his/her own.

You may have a lot of families that want to use the same cell but the question is, is that the case far more often than not? Going back and correcting the number takes a lot more time than just putting it in the first place. And when considering children, you may want a parent's cell number but since women are more likely to be the caregivers/handlers of appts, I would bet that the mom's cell, which is not necessarily the guarantor's cell, is what parents prefer most often.
Also, don't forget that it will overwrite the existing data so if you realize that wasn't what you wanted, the previous value is gone.
I guess they could have separate options that included linking the cell too but you can get to the point where figuring out which option to use takes longer than just entering the data.

We are finding that more and more are using their cell as primary phone contact, so we list that as home number. Then it will transfer over. When necessary, we add alert comment that cell is Mom/Dad/Grandma's number.

Karen The only problem with that is if you are using a communication service that sends texts to patients (or if you want to send a text to a patient) they look at the cell phone field so you'd still need to fill that out. We also use the alert comments for calling info. Marcia

Yes, we do put it in both fields, thanks for explaining that better, Marcia. I wish there were a way to indicate order of contact preference, not just one. Me just being picky, I guess, lol.

Ok, How about just linking vision insurance from guarantor to the patient? Can this be done?
