FYI, We've been running into patients whose recalls and last exam date are not getting updated even though they were billed for an exam bill code that was marked as Full Exam. The problem ended up being that the setting of the "Last Exam" date and auto update of the recall only occurs when the original invoice is saved. The recall window still pops up when the original invoice is saved but it will be blank unless an exam was billed. When an invoice is edited to add an exam code, the recall window does not pop-up.
My optician frequently creates an invoice for glasses before the exam is done and we edit the invoice and import the routing slip for the exam so we have been missing a significant number of recalls. A partial fix is to go ahead and set the recall when the original invoice is created but that doesn't seem to update last exam date.
I have requested that they do a check after any save of the invoice not just the original save.

Thank you! I've been trying to figure out why our recalls have been all messed up. That makes complete sense.

Here's the info Amanda sent me on updating the exam date and fixing recall dates.
On a computer that isn’t going to be used for a while, you will want to go to Admin>Patients and select Recalculate Last Exam. Depending on how many patients you have, will determine how long this process takes. I will advise, that you not leave the page while the recalculating is in process. Once it is done, all your patients should be updated with the right Last Exam date.
Once you’ve recalculated your patients exam dates, you can either run your Correspondence Report for a specific date range to see what patients do not have a recall tied to them and manually enter one for them one by one. Or you can choose to wait to use this report until you are ready to start recalling them based upon their last exam date.
If you choose to add a recall manually to your patients at this time, you will run the Correspondence Report>Billing/Schedule/Misc tab>Uncheck Last Exam Date>Enter date range and Generate your report. You will want to expand your results window to the right and select Display Recalls (blue button at the bottom). This will allow you to see how many of your patients within that time frame already have a recall linked to them. The patients that do not have recalls will be the ones you will want to double click and manually add one at that time.
