I have been trying to set up the "Admin-Email Settings (non-Direct)", and it just won't work; keep getting a time-out. For now, when I click on the box in Billing to send an Email to a patient inviting him/her to access the portal, the program pulls up Outlook, and I can send the Email from there. What's the difference between using Outlook or using Email setup in Crystal; any idea why I'm having trouble (I'm using Verizon)?

Not sure why you're getting time-out errors but from looking at my own settings, I believe the non-direct email is the standard email (not the paid service). If that is the case, it DOES open Outlook (or whatever your default email program is- in my case Pegasus Mail). The difference between doing it in Crystal and doing it within Outlook is that Crystal will fill in the patient email address and enter something into the subject line for you. I'm not sure but it may also enter a notation in the correspondence section.
Hope that helps. Marcia

Here's the problem: my office computer uses Verizon, and I have been unable to set up the E-mail(non-direct); I actually get "Error:Failure sending mail". But my home computer uses Windstream, and I AM able to get it working there (using smtp.windstream.net, but not smtp.verizon.net). I can't even log in at my office into the Windstream SMTP. I believe the problem may be that Verizon requires SSL encryption.
It's faster to send right from Crystal rather than using Outlook; the message is the same whichever method I use (from my home computer). But when using Outlook, it seems all the carriage returns are stripped from the message I have in the 'Default Web Portal Information' under Admin-Invoices, so the e-mail we send from there looks rather cramped together. Also, if we have any footer information under Admin-Invoices, it adds that to the E-mail, which is not desired.
So here's what I need to know: Is the requirement for SSL encryption preventing me from using the non-direct E-mail thru Crystal; if so is there a way around that? Why are the carriage returns missing when using Outlook? Can Crystal be fixed so it does not add the footer info?

Sorry. I thought you meant that you could send from Outlook if you opened it directly but not through the email link in Crystal. It's probably best for you to call or email tech support directly for something like this. But please come back and report how it was resolved so the info may help someone else.

OK, I think I've solved all the problems.
First, if you use Verizon, they refuse to handle any E-mail unless it is SSL encrypted, which Crystal apparently does not do. So if you only have Verizon, you're out of luck. Furthermore, if you need to use port 25 (which is what Windstream and most other carriers use), you are also out of luck since Verizon apparently does not like that port. I finally decided to use my gmail account, which uses port 587, and Verizon seems to think that port is OK without encryption.
Once the gmail account is set up, all e-mails are handled directly through Crystal, rather than through Outlook, so the other problems I had are moot.
I hope this saves some time for other users.
(but the addition of the footers is still a problem)
