I have an Optomap and want to share images with consulting retinal specialists and other providers. I have successfully compressed the image size and uploaded jpeg images to the secure Crystal website. I can access those images using any web browser as long as I have the correct user name and password. I have been told that I cannot share a patient's user name and password with another doctor without having a signed HIPAA compliant Business Associate Agreement with that doctor. Is this accurate? Is there a better way (other than purchasing an additional service from Optos) to share images?

I came up with a work-around that we use for records requests that I've been meaning to mention it here to see if Crystal could reproduce something like it specifically for that purpose. I made a patient named Patient Records. When we get a records request, we upload the records to "Patient Records" with the username=records and the password= the requesting doctor's phone number so it's easy to remember. We direct them to our website (where there's a big portal icon) to download and tell them it will be up for 7 days. We put a task to take it down after a week. That works for me because I have a small office and I'm not sending out records all the time. You could do it with a larger office but you'd need several "patients" and it would be a lot harder to keep track of them. I would love it if Crystal would piggyback a sharing system like that on top of the existing portal that would automatically remove the files after a defined time.
I don't know how it works but I think the Direct Email system would be your other option. I don't know if it can handle large files like you may encounter with a full records release though. Marcia

The way I send records to consulting doctors is similar, but I have each dr listed in Crystal as a patient with their own login to the portal. When I upload records, etc I send them an email with the link, that states records available for download. The link shows as Crystal PM File Manager. The contact person at the other office knows their login and can access as needed. I clear the old ones out each time I upload new ones. Since we have a set of separate files on our server as patient edocs, all tests are saved there, along with the doc's I&R's. I just add the file under upload patient file, and assign the medical record from the Assign Files tab. So far, no complaints from the other doctors.
